Q + A

We hope you'll find the below Q&A informative! Please reach out to Ally or Tim up until November 8, 2024 if you have additional questions. We will also update this page, as well as the Things to Do and Travel pages, consistently as we approach fall 2024.

Where should I fly in? How far is the airport to your venue?

Fly into "CHS" or Charleston International Airport. It is a 12 minute drive from the airport to our venue. Our venue is in downtown Charleston, and is within 1 mile walking distance to most of the downtown Charleston attractions.

Should I rent a car?

If you plan to stay in downtown Charleston, you can walk or Uber most places. Additionally, there are rentable bikes, and bike taxis to get you around the city. It is a very flat, safe, and walkable city. If you do want to rent a car, there is an easy car rental and return at the CHS airport.

Where should I stay?

Please use the 'Travel' tab for a detailed list of suggested places to stay. Charleston has MANY beautiful hotels, inns, bed & breakfasts, and AirBnB's. If you need a break from city life, you can also get closer to the beach by staying in Sullivan's Island or Folly Beach, which will be a 15-20 minute commute to the wedding festivities by Uber.

Are children allowed at either event?

In her 4 years of teaching, Ally dealt with enough children interrupting her perfectly planned events to feel she should not have to do so on her wedding day. Please arrange for alternative plans for anyone in your family under 18. No children will be permitted at the welcome night or wedding day.

What's the deal with the Welcome Night event? Is that like a rehearsal dinner?

Since we are not having a wedding party, we don't need a rehearsal dinner. We are hosting an open-bar Welcome Night for ALL guests to attend in the heart of downtown Charleston on King Street. The venue is beautiful and we will have plenty of passed appetizers and light snacks. You can come and go as you please between 6 pm and 10 pm. Ally recommends flying in early on Friday, grabbing dinner downtown around 5/5:30 pm, then heading to the Welcome Drinks event! This event will be photographed by our wedding photographer, and is a great opportunity to meet people you will see again the next day.

What is the weather like in Charleston in November?

Charleston is at its most beautiful, in our opinion, in October and November. It is typically between 55 and 67 degrees, with warm sun during the day, but not the humidity we suffer through in the summer. It is a great time to explore the city on foot, take a horse and carriage ride, or enjoy an afternoon cocktail at one of the city's many indoor/outdoor spaces.

What's the rain plan?

The Welcome Drinks venue is fully inside and covered, so you do not need to worry about rain on 11/8. The Wedding Venue has a fully tented option for the ceremony and cocktail hour if need be, and the dinner and dancing will be inside. We will provide umbrellas and flip flops if it rains so no one's hair and/or shoes are ruined!

What are the food options? Will you honor dietary restrictions?

We will not have access to the full menu for our events until August 2024. However, we will make every effort to honor any dietary restrictions. You will be able to indicate if you have a food allergy or restriction when you receive your invitation and RSVP.

Can I have a plus one?

Yes! We believe that any weddings requiring travel should offer traveling guests a "buddy" - whether that is your spouse, best friend, or someone you're casually dating. If you did not receive a plus one on your invitation and you would like one, please text Ally.

Do you prefer gifts, or cash, or...?

Your presence is presents enough! We will have a limited registry with shoppable items and a honeymoon fund (we are planning on going to Madeira, Portugal, and Mykonos, Greece in summer 2025!). We will also share our favorite charities and local causes if you would prefer to make a donation in place of a wedding gift.

Will your dogs be at the wedding?

Unfortunately, they will not. Suki does not get along with her maternal grandma for reasons unknown. Jace barks when he is not the center of attention. We will have a dog-free event for anyone who is not a fan of pups!

Your wedding invite says the wedding starts at 4 pm, but on the website it says 4:30...

Wow, first of all, great eyes! Second, the discrepancy in time is to ensure that everyone is comfortably seated so our ceremony can start promptly at 4:30. If you trust yourself to be timely, feel free to get to the venue a little after 4 pm. If you had too much fun the night before and are running late, we will happily let you in during the cocktail hour.
