You truly can't go wrong in Charleston. It is difficult to have a bad meal here! The one thing we have run into is that a lot of places do require some advanced planning or reservations.
Reservation Needed Suggestions:
🥘 Stella's - come hungry!
🌽 Husk - a Charleston classic. Show up early to visit the (very haunted) bar next door.
👑 82 Queen - a very gorgeous courtyard
🍣 167 Sushi - the best sushi Ally has ever had
🏵️ Magnolia's - another Charleston classic and a good excuse to dress up!
Walk-In Suggestions:
🍛 Xiao Bao Biscuit - right near the wedding venue, Tim's favorite
🌮 Ru Ru's Tacos and Tequila - usually pretty quick service
🍱 Fuji Hibachi and Sushi
"Party Feel" Drinks:
🍻 Blind Tiger
🍻 Henry's Bar and Rooftop
🍻 John King Dueling Piano Bar
🍻 Uptown Social
"Relaxed Feel" Drinks:
🍸The Dewberry Rooftop, The Citrus Club
🍸Elliotborough Mini Bar (a Tim favorite!)
🍸The Cocktail Club
🍸Charleston's Smallest Bar (part of a small alleyway where you can drink outside)
🍸Bay Street Biergarten
🍸The Tippling House (an Ally favorite!)
Just FYI - below are the college bars. We have made the mistake of going late-night before and, after 8:30 pm...you've been warned:
- Ink Lounge
- Juanita Greenberg's
- Silver Dollar
- Republic
- A.C's
Mount Pleasant is a gorgeous neighborhood just 5 minutes away from downtown Charleston. Take a short ride (or walk!) over the Ravenel Bridge, and you'll find a beautiful, new(ish) town with tons to do, including some of Ally and Tim's favorites!
- Eat and drink while you watch the dolphins swim by at Shem Creek
- Take a Kayak Tour of Shem Creek
- Visit downtown I'On (we like to start at O'Brion's), and look for Charleston's hidden gem: Little Venice
- Stroll around the historic Old Village to see some of Charleston's most beautiful, and pricey, homes (and a few shops!)
- Visit Sullivan's Island and have dinner at Poe's Tavern, Home Team BBQ (Tim's favorite), or Sullivan's Fish Camp (Ally's favorite)
James Island is a beachy, surfer town west of downtown Charleston. Take a short ride to James Island for shopping, delicious food, and a life-changing Sunday morning yoga class and farmer's market (a Tim/Ally staple). Or, ride a bit further and you'll find the famous Folly Beach, which can get a little crowded, but has a great surf shop and dining scene.
- We love the burgers, and friendly bartenders, and dogs roaming around, at Bohemian Bull!
- Crust Pizza is amazing, but the old-timey movie theater next door will really make your night!
- Sunday morning "PoHo" yoga at Pour House is a spiritual experience. Come early and bring cash so you can pay the $10 class fee and shop the farmer's market that is right outside after!
- Uber to 'Taco Boy' on Folly Beach and grab a drink at the second floor bar while you plan your shopping (or eating/drinking) excursion along the shoreline!
